Alan Cay Culler

Alan Cay Culler is a management consultant with 35 years experience specializing in strategic leadership and change. Alan has worked with name clients in a variety of industries including airlines, automotive, chemicals, financial services, healthcare, media, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals, and telecommunications. He has taught in executive education programs at several colleges and universities including The Wharton School, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh.

From January 2006, Alan has worked for a major global oil company helping to install integrated planning and production improvement common processes, an operating management system, and continuous improvement practices. He has trained and coached an internal consulting team, provided leadership facilitation and coaching, process assurance, integration with other common processes, multiple process improvement projects in many different SPUs. He has also helped to design and facilitate a leadership training program for 1500 mid-level operating leaders. This year he is helping to deploy Lean Six Sigma at a diversified financial services company.

Alan has worked for 5 consulting firms including Gemini Consulting where he mastered business process improvement and rose to be the head of the organizational practice. Alan taught Black Belts and ran Six Sigma projects at GE Capital; he led Kaizen projects at General Motors and Heinz; he learned quality methodologies working at DuPont and he learned large scale change methodologies at many different clients starting with the turnaround of British Airways, (1984-87.)

Alan has designed and facilitated leadership and change workshops at British Airways, BP, Citibank, First Interstate Bank, DuPont, General Motors, Mallinckrodt Chemicals, Pfizer, Rhodia Chemicals, Royal Bank of Canada, Sumitomo Pharmaceuticals, Toronto Dominion Bank, Short Brothers, among others.

Alan has published articles and book chapters on a variety of topics including “The Renewal Process: Principles, Process, Techniques” (Handbook of Business Strategy, 1994); “The Revitalization of Short Brothers” (chapter in Mobilizing the Organization, Litwin et al, Prentice Hall, 1995); and “Leadership Alignment, In Praise of the Journey,” with Dr. Ellen Hart (Transformation Magazine, 1997).

Alan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Centre College in 1969, and a Master of Science in Business Studies, with concentrations in International Marketing and Organizational Behavior, from the London Business School in 1981. He also received a post-graduate certificate in The Principles and Practices of Organization Development from Columbia University in 1986.
